And now?

The end of the beginning.

And so the story has ended, from all of us who were there at the beginning. It’s a great deal to read and I hope that you’ll tell everyone you know about this really great part of your life and career and use the Blog to add even more memories and anecdotes for all to read on an ongoing basis.

Tell your brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren and anyone else who could be interested. Put the blog link on your FaceBook page too.

We hope that this will lead to further and continual contact between us all and I hope that we’ve now started the beginning of a new interest. Please add your comments, your photos, any old stories that you have. It will be a great way to keep the spirit of great retailing personal and alive!

  1. I imagine that Alan's bacon platters, and (the give-away) those cheese-blintzes were from Jean and Ivor Kissin's 'Matador' cafe in Poynton? Lane.
Having been in and around retail most of my life from childhood, including holiday jobs at OK promoting toys on the PA...and 8 years in-store radio at PnP hypers...and actually enjoying stocktaking not just for the food...thanks for all these resonating stories !

  2. Yes, Jeff, it was Jean & Ivor's Matador cafe. They are both still here in Durban staying in a retirement complex near North Beach. I sat and spoke with them recently, reminiscing about everything including the fact that they would always cash my checques if and when I needed money. This was before credit cards.

  3. Now, September 2015, it's 4 years since I published this Blog and the readership amazes me. Because I have access to data, I regularly check to see if people are still reading it and the lowest readership month we've had about 70 people from all over the world! Recently the link was published on a Facebook page called"It's Durban Calling and the readership shot up almost 800 viewers from all over the world including Hungary, USA, Germany and many more.

  4. I love to view the history of things in South Africa. There is such a lack of it online. Like you can Google pretty much any company in America and find plenty historical info. Even in the official game site you won't find detailed info like this.

Does anyone have any pictures of the first game logo?
    The fist game stores?
